Halfway Reflection

I am majoring in entomology and nematology. Since none of my classes are business-related, I had no idea what to expect from an entrepreneurship class. So far, I have enjoyed creating a product, interviewing people, and reading about Berry Gordy.

What have I done to keep up with the course requirements?

I plan ahead. Since I live near campus, I attend the live lectures when I can. If I cannot attend the lecture for some reason, I schedule a time to watch the online lectures. I also review the assignments a week before they are due in order to give myself time to prepare (conduct interviews, film the elevator pitch, etc.).

Did I ever feel like giving up?

Being a college student is not easy, especially when you are taking classes and working at the same time. Although I have never felt like giving up on this class, I have had this feeling with other classes. I get through this by planning ahead. I give myself due dates and schedule times to work on different classes. This prevents me from procrastinating. When I do find myself struggling during exams or finals, I make sure to make time for one or more relaxing things. I’ll work out or cook a meal to destress before getting back to work.

Three tips:

1. Start reading as early as possible – Begin the assigned reading early so you have time to read the book before the reading reflection is due.
2. Attend the live lectures (if you can): If you cannot, schedule a time to watch the online lectures.
3. Look over the assignments a week or two in advance. This will give you time to plan accordingly for the assignment.

  1. Great tips for future students. I also suggested planning ahead and taking time for the assignments. I am an online student, but try and watch the class videos as thought I am attending the class. I like the suggestion for balancing the stress of the course work with doing something you enjoy. Balance is definitely important. It can help clear you head and give you a fresh and energized perspective.

  2. All of your tips require time management which I believe is such an important skill to have or develop in this course. Staying ahead of the game will no doubt contribute to your success in this course. We all have issues that occur outside of this course which will impede our progress like you mentioned. It is important to be able to balance them as we complete assignments. I have not been able to attend live lectures which requires more time management which is a reason this course may not be difficult to some, but to others can be a challenge.

  3. Hey Ashley,

I thought your post was very insightful and helpful for future students of the class. I think your point on how going to the live lectures is important because if you don't then it is easy to fall behind on the content of the class. I also think your last tip will assist future students because some of the assignments require a large amount of work and are hard to do with a small amount of time.

  4. Hey Ashley,

This is all great advice and something I'd find very useful if I was a new student coming into this class. Even after having been in this class for two months I still find these tips very useful, so thanks for that! I might make it a point to start going to the live lectures so that I don't find myself watching the, online last minute before a cupcake. Your last tip is particularly important because I know that at first I found myself being rushed at last minute because I didn't think an assignment was going to be so detailed.
