Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends
Economic Trends
1. Climate change is causing food prices to rise

B.) I believe this opportunity exists because certain crops, such as soybeans and corn, are not able to produce a viable yield when outside temperatures reach 84 degrees Fahrenheit or above. Developing crops with drought resistance through genetic modification or creating a heat resistant strain through hybridization could solve this problem.
C.) Farmers would be the prototypical customer for a heat and drought resistant plant. Since a lot of crops do not produce as valuable as a yield in high temperatures, farmers will lose money as the impacts of climate change persist. A resistant strain could prevent this from happening.
D.) I believe this idea would be easy to exploit. Genetically modified crops are already used by most farmers. For example, the majority of bananas in the world are modified or hybridized in some way to produce larger, more valuable fruit. Farmers would value a drought-resistant strain of soybeans or corn for the same reason.
2. The baby boomer generation is not retiring

B.) Due to the 2008 recession, baby boomers are not retiring. This trend is causing young people to find unconventional jobs, to further their education before finding a job, and to settle for part-time jobs or internships. Temporary jobs, often overseas, are becoming appealing to younger people. Offering temporary jobs in different countries would allow employers to expand their business outside of the country, and these jobs would most likely appeal to young people who are seeking experience.
C.) A business or a corporation that wants to expand their business to different countries would be a prototypical customer.
D.) This opportunity would be relatively difficult to exploit. Although temporary, overseas jobs may be sought after by younger people who are seeking experience, people still seek long-term job opportunities.
Regulatory Changes
1. Increased pay for ambulance providers in rural areas

B.) People who provide ambulance services in underserved areas will now receive more pay for their actions. I believe this will influence people in these rural areas to seek education in this field. Also, ambulance shortages may no longer be a problem in these areas.
C.) People who are seeking jobs in rural areas would be the prototypical customers.
D.) I believe this program would be easy to exploit. Paying a higher wage for a job that is in high demand will definitely lure people to that job.
2. The cap for Medicare therapy services is being lifted
A.) Source: https://www.healthcarelawtoday.com/2018/02/09/new-funding-legislations-impact-on-health-care-programs/
B.) There was a cap on therapy services covered by Medicare. This cap is being lifted.
C.) There will be a higher demand for speech-language pathologists and other therapists. Therefore, therapists are the prototypical customers.
D.) I believe this opportunity would be easy to exploit. People covered by Medicare who are in need of a form of therapy will be happy to know they can receive the help they need. Also, these therapists will be in high-demand and will not have to worry about unemployment.

Wow! These opportunities that you found aren't typical in the sense as they take a step deeper than the others I have seen. I think you dove deeper which allows you to find opportunities that the ordinary person would not find. Many people would just list climate change as an opportunity but you found a specific issue which creates an opportunity. Even the baby boomers not retiring is an deep opportunity as it requires us to not think on the surface and in the end, find alternatives that meet the new need.
